Medical laboratories of Spanish hospitals increase their confidence in accreditation to guarantee quality assistance in pathological anatomy
SEAP (Spanish Society of Pathological Anatomy) has strongly supported and promoted accreditation in the area
After granting in 2017 the first accreditations according to ISO 15189 in histopathology (focused on the study and diagnosis of breast cancer, gastrointestinal and skin cancer), in 2018 pathological anatomy remains one of the disciplines in which accreditation is experiencing a significant growth due to the increasing interest among pathologists but mainly due to the strong support and promotion developed by the Spanish Society of Pathological Anatomy (SEAP). Thus, in 2018 the first accreditation for lung cancer was granted to Onkologikoa Fundazioa (San Sebastian, Spain) and first accreditation for gynecological tumors to University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova, (Lleida, Spain).
In other specialties accreditation keeps growing with the recent accreditation of University Hospital “12 de Octubre” (Madrid) for almost all the activities in Biochemistry, Haematology and Immunology being also the first hospital in Spain to be accredited for mitochondrial DNA depletion testing and of CD25soluble biomarker quantification.
